The Remnants of Studio Culture

The Remnants are a set of vessels handcrafted for use within the graphic design studio. Cast from waste plastic bottles and paint pots they are a reflection on the impact we have on the environment as a student collective as well as an alternative to throw away vessels brought to the studio from university food outlets. Through the process of slipcasting, a ceramic material takes the form of the pre-existing plastic disposables. The resulting objects are then fired at a high temperature before being decorated, glazed and fired again. This process would be part of student induction as an alternative to the usual lacklustre “ice breakers” allowing each student to create their own unique vessel which will follow them throughout their university years.
