For my Matariki Calendar I wanted to visually communicate a feeling of the beautiful transition between sunset, dusk and night. This can be sen most obviously in my chosen colour scheme. For the title text my concept was to allude to a setting sun on the horizon. As it is the Maori New Year, I felt it important to give hierarchy to the Te Reo script over the English translations. I also thought it was important for the layout to be as straight-forward as possible. I created a small month view on my calendar so that I could display only the days of the month that are part of Matariki, with small icons to explain the lunar phases and where they lie in the calendar. In the booklet I remained consistent in style but added appropriate imagery to bring more interest to the text heavy booklet.
